settings iconStep 1: Set your microphone input level.

  • Important: You must adjust your input level every time you record.
  • Open the sound settings in your System Preferences
  • Click the Input tab
  • Play your instrument at full volume as you would when you are recording
  • The input level detected should be at least three tick marks from the right. If the tick marks hit the right end of the level meter, you will have distortion in your recording.
  • Adjust the input level with the slider.
  • Note: Some apps that use your microphone (Skype, for example), may automatically adjust your input level. Be sure those apps are not open.  You will need to readjust your input level every time you record.
